Make sure to wave if you see the Ontario Cares van driving by. It will likely be Luke Moody, our Veterans Coalition Program Coordinator, at the wheel, but you might also see Allauna Overstreet-Gibson, our EPIC Zone Geneva program coordinator, on her way to a field trip with our Geneva youth. Either way, you’ll know it when you see it coming.

In May, we purchased a van to help break down barriers keeping local Veterans from accessing social activities that promote wellness and connection. This week, we got it wrapped so everyone can see exactly what it’s here for. The purpose behind our mission was integral to the design: an American flag rolling across the back windows, our signature teal and orange wave along the sides, and the message “United in Service, Stronger Together” is a phrase that speaks for itself.

Transportation shouldn’t stand between a Veteran and a hike, a support group, or a day on the water, nor should it stand between a young person and a field trip that allows them to explore new experiences.

Next time you’re out and about in Ontario County, keep an eye out. If you see it, give a honk or a wave. The van is just one small piece of what “connecting neighbors and empowering community” actually looks like on the road.
