A New Space for Veterans to Connect: Introducing the Ontario County Veterans Men's Group
Connecting with others is an important part of overall health for everyone, but Veterans are at higher risk for depression and social isolation, making community especially critical. That’s exactly why the Ontario Cares Veterans Coalition and CompeerCorps are joining forces to create a space where Veterans in Ontario County can simply show up, share a meal, and find community.
According to Ontario Cares Veterans Coalition Coordinator Luke Moody, the initiative was inspired by the success of CompeerCorps’ Men’s Group in Monroe County. Recognizing the need for meaningful, prosocial connection in our community, the two organizations are joining forces to launch a Veterans Men’s Group right here in Ontario County.
“This event offers a free lunch to Veterans and provides them with space and opportunity to connect with one another,” Moody says.
The inaugural gathering will be held at Tom Wahl’s in Canandaigua on Route 332, at a to-be-determined date and time. Stay tuned for updates on future dates and how to get involved
