Ontario Cares to Host Medication Take-Back Day at Geneva Wegmans on April 25
ONTARIO COUNTY — Over 1,100 pounds of unused medications and sharps were collected at local Take-Back events in Ontario County last year, and the need hasn’t slowed down.
In partnership with the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office, Ontario County Public Health, and the Geneva City Police Department, Ontario Cares will host a free Medication Take-Back Day on Saturday, April 25, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Geneva Wegmans, 300 Hamilton Street.
“We’re so grateful for the support of our partners in hosting this event,” said Ashley Tomassini, Ontario Cares director of community wellness and prevention. “Their collaboration is key to safe medication disposal and providing Narcan training, and we appreciate their dedication to community safety through the Medication Take Back events.”
The event gives Ontario County residents a safe, convenient, and judgment-free opportunity to dispose of expired, unusable, or unneeded medications, liquids, and sharps (in a puncture-proof container).
Unused prescription drugs pose a serious risk to public health and safety. They can end up in the wrong hands when they’re left in medicine cabinets. They also contaminate our water supply and landfills when not discarded properly. Safe disposal events like this one are critical toward protecting our communities, families, and environment.
