Second Chances in Action: Putting Restorative Justice Into Action

Members of our Youth Court oversaw a case at Victor Town Court earlier this monthYouth Court has been keeping busy this month, with a perfect example of what restorative justice looks like in practice.

This month, for the first time, our team arranged an Uber for a respondent and their parent to get to court. It may sound simple, but the impact is huge. This young person had missed court several times, and rather than giving up on them, our team found a way to remove the barrier standing between them and accountability.

“We gave them another chance, and they showed up, were respectful, and have already completed their sanction!” said Anamari Wallace-Reyes, our Youth Court program assistant.

At its core, Youth Court is all about second chances. We met this young person where they are, and they rose to the occasion.

We held three sessions of Youth Court this March, and it’s fair to say our team and youth volunteers are showing what it means to put learned values into action.
