Building Healthier Communities Together:
Finger Lakes Community Health Comes to EPIC Zone Geneva
At Ontario Cares, partnerships are at the core of everything we do, and our collaboration with Finger Lakes Community Health is a perfect example of that mission in action.
The Preventive Health Department at Finger Lakes Community Health has been visiting EPIC Zone Geneva every other Wednesday, bringing health-based programming directly to our youth.
A Commitment to Prevention and Empowerment
The Preventive Health Department at Finger Lakes Community Health is dedicated to strengthening the health and well-being of the communities it serves. Through education, advocacy, and meaningful community partnerships, the department works to reduce health disparities, increase access to prevention-focused services, and ensure individuals and families have the tools they need to make informed, confident decisions about their health.
Meet Mia
Leading the charge at EPIC Zone Geneva is Mia Coles, health educator and advocate, who brings engaging, age-appropriate programming centered on youth empowerment, wellness, and informed choice. Her sessions cover a range of important topics including healthy relationships, consent, communication skills, reproductive health, STI prevention, personal boundaries, and self-advocacy.
What sets Mia’s approach apart is her commitment to creating spaces where young people truly feel seen. “Her work is trauma-informed, inclusive, and culturally responsive, creating safe spaces where young people feel respected, supported, and heard,” said Allauna Overstreet-Gibson, program coordinator at EPIC Zone Geneva.
Beyond the Youth
Mia’s impact extends beyond EPIC Zone’s young members. She also offers workshops and discussions for parents, caregivers, educators, and community groups, as well as individualized guidance and healthcare navigation support.
Mia truly is fantastic! An engaging orator with the warmth and presence to make any and every topic accessible, safe, and informative. A gem to our community!
