You may already know that Ontario Cares runs a Youth Court program right here in Ontario County, but did you know it’s part of a nationwide movement?

Last month, Tina Shumpert, our director of youth programs, traveled to Las Vegas for the National Youth Court Association Conference, joining youth court professionals from across the country to learn and bring fresh ideas back home.

“The conference provided a valuable opportunity to connect with fellow colleagues, exchange ideas, and gather insight into the innovative practices being implemented in youth courts nationwide,” she said.

The conference brought together program staff, coordinators, and allied professionals focused on restorative justice and youth development, exploring practical tools and sustainable strategies through workshops and peer learning sessions.

What does that mean for Ontario County? The insights Shumpert brought back will help strengthen how we support local young people, strengthen community connections, and continue growing a program that’s making a real difference right here in our own backyard.
