257 Pounds of Unused Medications
Although the weather wasn’t cooperative this past Saturday, the community still came out.
On Saturday, April 25, Ontario Cares set up at Geneva Wegmans for National Medication Take-Back Day. Despite a rainy morning that cut the event an hour short, the turnout spoke for itself: 257.8 pounds of unused or expired medications and 65.44 pounds of sharps were collected and will be safely disposed of, keeping them out of our homes, our waterways, and the wrong hands.
“We’re grateful to everyone who dropped of unwanted medications to help keep communities and the environment safe,” said Ashley Tomassini, director of wellness and prevention at Ontario Cares. “Thank you to the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office, Ontario County Public Health, Geneva City Police Department, and Geneva Wegmans for a successful event serving the community!”
Held twice a year, Medication Take Back Day serves to remind us how much unused medications accumulate in our community and why it’s important to dispose of them properly.
