Ontario Cares Honored for Collaborative Response to SNAP Crisis

Ontario Cares was recently recognized for its role in ensuring Ontario County residents had access to food during a time of uncertainty: the 2025 Federal Government shutdown.

At the Ontario County Safety Council Annual Award Ceremony Banquet, Ontario Cares Community Support Center program coordinator Karen Guidarelli accepted the 2026 Choose Health Ontario Award alongside Naples Open Cupboard coordinator Christina Bliss. The recognition award was presented by the Ontario County Health Collaborative in honor of the collaborative effort among Ontario County food pantries to keep food on the tables of local families when SNAP payments were delayed.

Showing Up for the Community

When the federal shutdown created uncertainty around SNAP benefits, Ontario County food pantries mobilized. Through coordination and deep dedication to the community, organizations across the county worked together to fill the gap and ensure families had resources.

A Shared Honor

This recognition belongs to everyone who rolled up their sleeves during a difficult time. Congratulations to all of the partners who made this recognition possible.
