Youth Court Keeps More Than 20 Young People Out of the Justice System in 2025

In 2025, our Ontario County Youth Court members and staff continued to have a meaningful impact on youth by providing an alternative to the traditional juvenile justice system. Over the course of the year, the program held 20 court dates, helping more than 20 young people address minor offenses without becoming further involved in the formal justice process and facing punitive measures.

For the uninitiated, Youth Court offers teens a chance to have their cases heard by their peers in a restorative setting. Participants take on roles such as judge, jury, attorneys, and bailiff, gaining firsthand experience with the justice system while focusing on accountability and personal growth rather than punishment.

The impact is huge. By diverting young people from costly court fees and potential records, Youth Court creates opportunities for growth, leadership, and healthy outcomes.

If you know a teen who’s interested in becoming a member of Youth Court, spring training is just around the corner! Check out our upcoming  member appreciation and recruitment event at Roseland Bowl on Feb. 19. Or if you know someone who could benefit from restorative justice, you can fill out a referral form.
