Hope and Healing Network of Ontario County Brings Prevention Efforts Together
After months of conversation and collaboration, two of our long-standing community prevention groups have officially joined forces. The former Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition and Suicide Prevention Coalition have merged to create what is now the Hope and Healing Network of Ontario County.
Substance use and suicide prevention are interconnected issues affecting many in our region. By uniting efforts, coalition members say the work can be more aligned and impactful.
“Some of our partners were members of both coalitions previously so rather than having two meetings on related topics, we’re having one slightly longer meeting to increase collaboration and go deeper on topics,” said Ashley Tomassini, the Ontario Cares director of community wellness and prevention.
Members were involved in the transition from start to finish. At a recent meeting, several name ideas were proposed and discussed. After the meeting, coalition members voted on their favorites. A steering committee then reviewed the top choices and selected Hope and Healing Network of Ontario County as the new name.
The name resonated with members for its uplifting message and focus on positive outcomes—reflecting the coalition’s commitment to building stronger support systems and fostering well-being across the community.
As a previous member for several years with the Substance Abuse Prevention Committee, I am interested in possibly getting involved again with Hope and Healing. I will look for updates and emails for meetings, as well as events.
Thank you, Annie Peck….
