Counseling FAQs

Short-Term Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) is a goal-oriented, evidence-based therapeutic approach that helps people focus on solutions rather than dwelling on problems. It’s designed to be short-term, often just a few sessions, and concentrates on helping people identify strengths, build on past successes, and take concrete steps toward positive change.

Therapists use the seven key elements of Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) to help clients identify solutions and move toward change. These are:

1. Focus on solutions, not problems
2. Clients are the experts in their own lives
3. Goal-oriented conversations
4. Exploring exceptions, or identifying when a problem is less intense
5. Scaling questions on a 1-10 scale
6. Miracle question
7. Small steps lead to big change

The Partnership for Ontario County provides up to 12 free counseling sessions for Ontario County residents and up to 15 free sessions for students of Geneva School District and their families.

Clients are typically booked for one-hour sessions, although longer or shorter sessions may be scheduled if necessary.

Contact the Partnership for Ontario County prior to your first appointment. You can contact us by phone at (585) 396-4554, or email [email protected]. Following your first appointment, your counselor will provide you with their preferred contact information, which will be used for further communication.

Once you’re scheduled, you will receive an email with the date, time, address, and directions for your appointment.

Food Pantry FAQs

The Canandaigua Pop-Up Food Pantry is typically held on the last Monday of each month, though the schedule sometimes varies. Food distribution begins at 10 a.m. and continues until all food is gone. For specific dates, check out our events calendar or subscribe to our newsletter.

The Canandaigua Pop-Up is located at the Town of Canandaigua Highway Department Barn at 5440 Route 5 & 20 in Canandaigua. Enter on Buffalo Street, and pull around the right side of the building to pick up food.

No identification is required.

We offer a variety of both perishable and non-perishable food items, including canned foods, meat, and fresh produce.

Pull your car into the line, and a volunteer will greet you. When the food is ready for distribution, you will drive through the barn and volunteers will put the food in your car.

No, but arriving early is recommended as lines get long fast.
